Why should luxury have to be imported?
Walk into a lighting shop here and the most expensive lamps have usually come from somewhere else. Imported has come to mean better. We never believed that.
Pakistan has fine machinists, brass turners and finishers. What it has had too little of is original design for them to build. So we stopped waiting for someone else to do it.
We draw our lamps ourselves, work out how they are built, and make them with workshops here in Lahore. Lau is the first: a lamp with a new idea in it, not a copy from a catalogue.
A few electronic parts, like the LEDs, still come from abroad. The idea, the engineering and the making are from here.
